One Whole Year

We had high hopes to sneak away for our anniversary
weekend this year, but after last weekends EXPENSIVE
break in, we decided it was best to plan a weekend from home.
We planned on waking up early, going for some
egg bennies at the Deane's house, going to
check out Reader Rock Gardens {where we got married},
then heading out to Banff with the puppies to do a
bit of exploring, perhaps get some pizza
 {the best on earth can be found at the Bear St. tavern}
then coming home to have a fire and make
some dinner. When we woke up to super cold weather,
our plans changed. We went back to sleep.

K Country

We were humming a hawing about heading to Banff this
weekend to play and decided to use Calgary as home
base but still head out for a mini hike. So
we headed out today around 11am. Grabbed some
Timmy's and had a delightful drive.
We wanted to do the loop around
forget-me-not pond but when the road was closed
at Elbow falls, we settled for Ing's mine just down the way.
It was sunny and warm and snowy and perfect.
We played with the dogs for a good  hour and a half along
the river. I love when the four of us get out for some
fresh air together. Around 230 we decided it was time to head
back home...

Only to get back to our car and discover this.

Since I had my phone and didn't want to haul a lot on
our walk I also left behind my $1000 camera, which of
course is gone..  Along with all of our photos on it.
On top of that, we now have to buy a new phone for
Rhys outright because his contract is not
ready for an upgrade. Turns out our idea to stick around town
to save us a bit of cash backfired. Next time I'm going to Banff.

Saturday Escapes

I've had an amazing day with my love.
We went exploring and found a really cool coulee with a
dead end road. We were able to stop, let
the pups out and we all did a bit of playing around.
It's always in those moments I realize just
how lucky I am to have found my Mister.
Even when we get lost on purpose or accident, we
always have a good laugh. We love getting out of the
city even if it is only for an hour or two.
I'm a city lover. I love the lights and the buildings.
Rhys loves the country. The open space and the quiet.
It's funny because I grew up in the middle of nowhere and
he grew up in the city.
Even so, as long as we are together, we are both
happy to be wherever we are.

Homemade Goodies

I've been experimenting a lot with homemade goodies.
Ever since the I made my own hummus, and realized
that most of the "condiments" I use are easy to make,
expensive to buy, and taste just as good at home I have
been playing with my fav's at home.
This pecan butter is soooooo good.
I often use either pumpkin seed butter or the
almond/cashew butter blend on my pears
but realized I had these pecans kicking around and hardly
ever use them unless on a salad.
I threw them whole, in a pan and toasted them up
then tossed them right into my food processor, added
some cinnamon and voila!
It only took about 5 minutes to make and
is so so so good on a pear.

Blog Slacker

The truth of it, is that there really hasn't been much
going on. I've been working LOTS of shifts for the
past month but luckily it is the countdown to the
payoff. Most of this was trades for other people which
means I'm OFF for 12 whole days in a row!!!!
Woo-Hoo! But it's also made for a pretty boring
blog month.
I have been busy trying new recipes- some successes,
mostly a lot of big fat fails. Nothing turned out
"non-edible" but not keepers for my cookbook.
The snow has meant that it's given me the
perfect excuse to stay inside wrapped up in
blankies cuddling with my besties {Eddie and Millie}
and drinking lots and lots of yummy coffee.
I'm sure my jeans aren't going to like all this sitting
around business but man does my heart like it.
I'm finally feeling back to myself slowly but surely.
I have a job interview on Thursday for a permanent at
FMC again. Not too sure how I feel about it yet-
I keep wondering if I really should give it another 6 months
to see if SHC comes together but the management style just
doesn't agree with me so I'm leaning towards trying to
stay at FMC... Decisions decisions.
In the meantime- it's not often you get interviews so I try
to get as many as I can under my belt. Even bad interviews
are great experience.
